TRANG.Stephen Colbert went for the jugular in his latest monologue, tearing into Pete Hegseth with one of his fiercest takedowns yet

Stephen Colbert “Explodes” Live: Pete Hegseth’s Sarcasm Shocks America

The Late Show audience was shaken last night when Stephen Colbert, America’s most famous satirical host, unleashed an unprecedented fury on Fox News host Pete Hegseth, in a monologue that sent the audience and social media into a frenzy.

It started as usual: Colbert mocked some political news of the week, the audience laughed, the stage lights flashed. But then, when it came to a recent controversial comment by Hegseth, Colbert stopped mid-sentence, chuckled, and dropped a line that everyone in the studio knew would cause a stir:

“Pete Hegseth is a five-star douche – and I’m being nice!”

As soon as he finished, the audience stood up and cheered, many raising their hands to their heads in amazement. But what really shocked me was the next line, when Colbert looked straight into the camera, his voice dropping and his voice cold:

“There are people who lie for money. There are people who lie for power.

And then there’s Pete — who lies because he doesn’t know what the truth is anymore.”

The atmosphere in the studio went from excitement to absolute tension. A few members of the crew stood backstage looking at each other, while Colbert remained calm, sipped water and continued the rest of the show as if nothing had happened.

Just minutes after the show aired, Twitter, Reddit and TikTok exploded. The hashtag #ColbertVsHegseth trended straight to the top, with thousands of comments taking sides.

Colbert’s fans called it “a stab at the heart of hypocrisy,” while Hegseth’s supporters responded that Colbert “crossed the line of political comedy.”

A Variety writer commented:

“This is more than a joke — this is a declaration of war on the American media world.”

Meanwhile, Fox News has remained silent. Pete Hegseth has not commented publicly, but an inside source said he is “very angry and considering an appropriate response.”

Observers say this could be the opening act of a public confrontation between two media icons on opposite sides of the political spectrum — one representing liberal satire, the other traditional conservative.

And Stephen Colbert? He posted only one tweet a few hours after the show:

“The truth doesn’t need an apology.”
