The Green Bay Packers have pledged to cover all medical expenses for one of their most beloved Hall of Fame legends, honoring a player whose grit and class helped define an era of Packers football.
Team president Ed Policy confirmed the decision in an emotional statement, calling it both a duty and a privilege to support a man who gave his all to the organization.
“He carried the Packers on his back during our rise to greatness,” Policy said. “Now it’s our turn to carry him. Once you’ve worn this green and gold, you’re family for life.”
That promise was made to Dorsey Levens, the dynamic running back who powered the Packers through their Super Bowl runs of the 1990s. Known as one of the NFL’s premier dual-threat backs of his generation, Levens combined vision, toughness, and versatility in a way few could match.
From 1994 to 2001, Levens appeared in 102 games for Green Bay, amassing 3,937 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns, along with 2,079 receiving yards and 16 more scores
. His career peaked in 1997, when he rushed for 1,435 yards, earned a Pro Bowl selection, and became one of the league’s most complete offensive weapons.
Levens was instrumental in the Packers’ Super Bowl XXXI victory in 1996, scoring a crucial rushing touchdown to help deliver the team’s first championship in nearly three decades. He followed it up with
90 rushing yards in Super Bowl XXXII, proving again that his best moments came under the brightest lights.
After leaving Green Bay, Levens spent brief stints with the Eagles, Giants, and Steelers
, finishing his NFL career with 4,955 rushing yards, 36 rushing touchdowns, and 2,334 receiving yards. His contributions were immortalized when he was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2009.
