ST.Jelly Roll Reveals How He Lost Almost 200 Pounds in a Year Without Slowing Down on Tour

Most people slow down when they’re trying to lose weight. Jelly Roll hit the gas.
The country singer turned fitness underdog is out here doing what most folks didn’t think was possible. Shedding nearly 200 pounds while still headlining arenas, jumping into WWE rings, and staying true to the rough-around-the-edges, heart-on-his-sleeve guy fans fell in love with in the first place. There’s no Hollywood trainer bootcamp, no fad diet nonsense. Just a brutally honest battle with food addiction, a whole lot of walking, and a man on a mission to finally live the life he once only sang about.
Jelly Roll, born Jason DeFord, started his journey at a jaw-dropping 540 pounds. The same man who once rapped about dark nights and broken pasts is now lacing up sneakers for 5Ks, training in arenas between soundchecks, and eating air-fried Nashville hot chicken instead of the real grease-soaked deal. And he’s not just dropping pounds. He’s chasing down dreams.

In April, during a sit-down with Pat McAfee, Jelly revealed he’d officially hit 357 pounds. That’s 183 pounds gone. Vanished. Melted away with sweat, stubbornness, and a daily decision to do better. “I’ve been kicking ass on this tour,” he said, explaining how he brought nutritionist Ian Larios on the road, swapped late-night drinking for early morning hoops, and traded truck-stop meals for protein bowls and banana snacks with Manuka honey.
“I want to be under 250 pounds,” Jelly said during a stop at Jimmy Kimmel Live, adding that was the number he needed to unlock the “fun stuff” in life. Skydiving, rollercoasters, bungee jumps, bull riding, and even wrestling an alligator. He’s not kidding. “I’ve got a list of things I want to do,” he said. That list once seemed impossible. Now, it’s just a matter of time.
The transformation isn’t just physical. It’s emotional. Mental. Spiritual. Jelly’s made it no secret that food addiction ran deep. For nearly 40 years, he looked to the dinner table for comfort, coping, and control. Changing that relationship has been the hardest part. But also the most rewarding. “Once that little snowball started rolling, it was on its way,” he told People. Now he’s rolling through life lighter, healthier, and unapologetically focused.
When he showed up at SummerSlam 2025 to tag-team with Randy Orton in a wild match against Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre, fans couldn’t believe the glow-up. Jelly Roll wasn’t just walking into that ring under 300 pounds for the first time since middle school. He was walking in with confidence. With swagger. With the kind of belief that only comes from staring your demons in the face and swinging anyway.
Triple H himself saluted Jelly’s transformation. “Proud doesn’t even begin to describe it,” he wrote. “RESPECT!” Fans on social media echoed it: “Bro, respect,” one wrote. “Having him do a table spot was cr𝐚zy.” Another added, “We witnessed Jelly Roll die and come back to life just to lose… WTF.”
Lose the match, sure. But the man already won the war.
This isn’t Jelly Roll’s first weight loss journey. Back in 2016, he lost 200 pounds before gaining some of it back. Life on the road, living out of truck stops, and battling alcoholism took its toll. But this time? It’s different. It’s not about a quick fix. It’s about building a life worth living and bringing his fans along for the ride.
He even said it on his wife Bunnie XO‘s podcast: “I want to be honest about my struggles… I wore it for so long.” He could’ve lost the weight in private, reappeared in a sleeker body, and played it off. But he didn’t. He did it publicly, daily, vlogging his journey, sharing setbacks, and celebrating wins. Because that’s what Jelly Roll does. He makes people feel seen. Heard. Less alone in their own struggles.
Next up on the goal list? Skydiving in Sweden with Bunnie. A half marathon. Maybe even a Men’s Health cover. That one’s still a stretch, but so was a 5K a year ago. Don’t bet against a man who dropped 200 pounds with nothing but walking shoes and relentless drive.
The real flex? Jelly Roll didn’t change who he was to make all this happen. He didn’t get a Hollywood makeover or ditch his fans for a Peloton sponsorship. He’s still the same dude singing about pain, redemption, and finding light in the darkest corners. Only now, he’s doing it while lifting weights, hiking mountains, and proving that it’s never too late to take your life back.
