The sports journalism community is in mourning following the tragic news that Christina Chambers, a well-known American sports reporter recognized for her work with FOX affiliate WBRC, was found dead in her home alongside her husband.
Christina Chambers and her husband, Johnny Rimes, were discovered after family members became concerned when the couple failed to return phone calls. A relative went to their residence, where the couple’s 3-year-old son answered the door.
Upon entering the home, the family member found both adults collapsed on the floor and immediately called 911. When paramedics arrived, they confirmed that both Christina Chambers and Johnny Rimes had no signs of life, while the child was unharmed.
What is known so far about Christina Chambers’ death
According to reports from local media in Hoover, Alabama, both bodies were found inside the home with gunshot wounds.
Although the investigation by the Hoover Police Department is still in its early stages, preliminary reports indicate the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Authorities stated that the couple had not received any known threats that would suggest a targeted attack. Christina Chambers was 38 years old, and Johnny Rimes was 41.
Who was Christina Chambers?
Originally from Cullman, Alabama, Christina Chambers was a respected sports journalist who earned her journalism degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she was also a scholarship athlete.
She began her career at WLTZ in Columbus, Georgia, before moving on to Comcast Sports Southeast in Atlanta. Chambers also worked independently, covering college football and basketball.
In 2015, she joined WBRC in Birmingham. She stepped away from full-time reporting in 2021, but continued working as a sideline reporter during the 2025 football season.
WBRC News later released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their former colleague.
