Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett claimed on the House floor on Tuesday that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin took donations from Jeffrey Epstein, but public records show the donations came from a completely different person.
Crockett claimed on the House floor that Zeldin took donations from Epstein, although it turned out that the person in question is a self-employed physician in New York who made a $750 donation to Zeldin’s congressional campaign on April 24, 2020, a year after the convicted sex offender died, according to records by the Federal Election Commission (FEC). This individual made an additional $250 donation to Zeldin’s campaign on Aug. 31, 2020.
“Folks who also took money from somebody named Jeffrey Epstein, as I had my team dig in very quickly. Mitt Romney, the NRCC, Lee Zeldin, George Bush, Win Red, McCain Palin, Rick Lazio. I just want to be clear, if this is the standard that we’re going to make, just know we’re going to expose it all and just know that the FEC filings, they are available for everybody to review,” Crockett said. Zeldin then mocked Crockett’s error in a statement posted to X.
“Yes Crockett, a physician named Dr. Jeffrey Epstein (who is a totally different person than the other Jeffrey Epstein) donated to a prior campaign of mine. NO FREAKIN RELATION YOU GENIUS!!!” Zeldin wrote.
Records also showed that a self-employed physician named Jeffrey Epstein made two $250 donations to former Republican Utah Sen. Mitt Romney during his presidential run in 2012, indicating that Romney did not receive any donations from the disgraced sex offender.
The House of Representatives passed the “Epstein Files Transparency Act” on Tuesday in a 427-1 vote, with Republican Louisiana Rep. Clay Higgins being the sole dissenter. President Donald Trump stated in a Sunday Truth Social post that Republicans should vote to release the files because they have “nothing to hide.”
