RM Brett Favre Criticizes Bad Bunny as 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Selection

Brett Favre’s personal music tastes clearly don’t include Bad Bunny.
On Monday’s episode of his 4th & Favre podcast, the Hall of Fame quarterback shared why he wouldn’t have chosen the Grammy-winning Puerto Rican artist to headline February’s Super Bowl halftime show. The NFL’s decision has already drawn criticism from various corners — including former President Donald Trump.
When co-host David Kano asked who Favre would pick if he were NFL commissioner, the former Packers star didn’t hesitate.
“I’d go with someone like Jason Aldean… someone who loves this country and that everybody can connect with,” Favre said. “Right now, Jason Aldean is a huge patriot and he’s got an incredible voice.”
Favre, who has publicly supported Trump, didn’t elaborate further on his views about Bad Bunny.
He added that country icon George Strait would also be a strong choice. “I’m old school — I like George,” Favre said of the 73-year-old singer. “There are plenty of great options.”
The 55-year-old reminisced about one of his most memorable Super Bowl performances: Whitney Houston’s iconic national anthem before Super Bowl XXV in 1991. “If that didn’t put tears in your eyes, something was wrong,” he said. “The anthem and halftime show are different, but both should really move you.”
Favre noted he hadn’t been warned the question was coming.
The discussion comes amid broader backlash to the league’s decision to feature Bad Bunny in Santa Clara. Critics have pointed to the artist’s outspoken opposition to Trump and his policies. Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, recently completed a 31-day residency in Puerto Rico, opting not to tour on the U.S. mainland due to concerns about mass Latino deportations.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell responded to controversy about the halftime pick at last month’s Fall League Meeting. “These choices are very intentional,” he said. “I don’t think we’ve ever picked an artist who didn’t receive some criticism. With hundreds of millions of viewers, it’s almost unavoidable.”
Bad Bunny is expected to perform in Spanish during the show.
The halftime performance has been produced by Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s entertainment company, since the 2019 season, giving the firm significant influence over performer selection.
