qq UPDATE | March 3, 2026 – 4:10 PM. Chris Jones has responded after a top draft prospect boldly claimed he plans to “pass him up.”

Kansas City, MO — The Kansas City Chiefs know one thing entering the 2026 offseason: Chris Jones cannot keep doing it alone.

At 32 years old next season, Jones remains one of the NFL’s premier interior disruptors.

But over the past two years, his raw production has dipped slightly — not because of decline, but because offenses routinely double and triple-team him.

The Chiefs’ front office understands that if the pass rush is going to rebound from last season’s 25th-ranked 35 sacks, reinforcements are necessary.

And one draft prospect just volunteered himself.

During the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, Florida defensive tackle Caleb Banks was asked who he models his game after. His answer was immediate.

“Definitely after Chris Jones,” Banks said, praising Jones’ athleticism and presence.

Then he added fuel to the fire. “I’m not there yet, but once I raise my ceiling and do what I do, I definitely feel like I’ll pass him up.”

The bold confidence caught attention. So did the similarities.

Like Jones, Banks stands 6-foot-6 with an explosive first step and relentless motor.

At 327 pounds, he is even heavier than Jones’ 310-pound frame.

Though limited to three games in 2025 due to a broken foot, Banks posted 4.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles in 2024.

Evaluators describe him as raw but physically dominant — much like Jones was entering the league in 2016.

Jones, never one to shy away from social media moments, responded to Banks on X in his trademark confident style.

While the exact tone was playful, the message was clear. Competition is welcome.

The timing is intriguing.

Kansas City is expected to lose several defensive line veterans in free agency, including Charles Omenihu, Mike Pennel, and Derrick Nnadi. Defensive end Mike Danna was already released, freeing up $9 million in cap space.

The Chiefs invested in youth last year with Omarr Norman-Lott and Ashton Gillotte, but consistency remains a question — particularly after Norman-Lott suffered a torn ACL.

Holding the No. 9 overall pick, Kansas City has options. If they believe Banks is the long-term complement — or eventual successor — to Chris Jones, they may need to use that first-round selection.

For a defense searching for renewed edge and interior dominance, the idea of pairing the proven star with the ambitious challenger is compelling.

And if the Chiefs pull the trigger, Chris Jones may soon have exactly what he’s needed — help, and a hungry young talent determined to chase his throne.
