Will Roberts, a young boy from Ralph, Alabama, has been fighting one of the most aggressive and unforgiving forms of cancer — osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer that most often strikes children and teenagers during periods of rapid growth. It is a disease known not only for its physical pain, but for how quickly and relentlessly it can spread, even after surgery and chemotherapy.
Just weeks after 14-year-old Will underwent a major operation to remove cancer from his pelvis and femur at MD Anderson Cancer Center, his family received devastating preliminary PET scan results. The cancer had metastasized — reaching his jaw, sternum, lymph nodes, liver, arms, legs, and lungs. For any family, this is news that stops time.
Yet what defines Will’s story is not only the severity of his illness — it is his fight.
Despite unimaginable pain, invasive treatments, and crushing uncertainty, Will has continued to hold on to the simple joys that make him a kid: early morning hunting trips, laughter with family, faith, and determination. His mother Brittney’s words reflect a family choosing hope in the face of fear — refusing to let despair steal their faith or their love, even as they acknowledge how fragile the road ahead may be.
Osteosarcoma at this stage is considered extremely rare and high-risk. Treatment options become limited. Outcomes are uncertain. But Will’s strength lies in more than medicine alone. It lives in his spirit, his will to keep going, and the community surrounding him with prayer and support.

Just weeks after undergoing major surgery to remove cancer from his pelvis and femur at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Will and his parents, Jason and Brittney, received heartbreaking preliminary PET scan results. The cancer has spread throughout his body — to his jaw, sternum, lymph nodes, liver, arms, legs, and lungs.
In a deeply emotional post, Brittney shared that they are now waiting to meet with Will’s oncologist to learn if any options remain. Yet even in her tears, her faith stands firm.
“This may be our last Christmas,” she wrote. “But God has not abandoned Will.”
