LDT “RIP Eddie Munson: Duffer Brothers Confirm Character’s Absence in Final Season.”

In a definitive statement, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed that Eddie Munson, portrayed by Joseph Quinn, will not return in the upcoming fifth and final season of the hit Netflix series.

Eddie Munson, introduced in Season 4 as the charismatic leader of the Hellfire Club and a beloved metalhead, met a heroic end in the Upside Down, sacrificing himself to divert the Demobats and allow his friends to escape. His death left a significant impact on fans and characters alike.

Despite persistent fan theories and playful comments from Quinn suggesting a possible return, the Duffer Brothers have firmly closed the chapter on Eddie’s story. In an interview with Empire, Matt Duffer stated, “I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he’s dead. Joe is so busy anyway, that everyone should know he’s not coming back. He’s shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot Stranger Things? No, sadly, RIP. He’s fully under that ground.”

Joseph Quinn’s rising career has kept him occupied with several major film roles, including parts in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, Gladiator II, and an upcoming Beatles biopic in which he will portray George Harrison.

While Eddie Munson won’t physically appear in Season 5, his legacy will continue to resonate within the narrative. The Season 5 teaser trailer features a poignant moment where Dustin visits Eddie’s vandalized gravesite, underscoring the lasting impact of his sacrifice.

Stranger Things Season 5 is set to premiere in three parts: Volume I on November 26, Volume II on December 25, and the finale on December 31, 2025. The final season will consist of eight episodes and will be released on Netflix.
