LDT. Johnny Depp Cast as Ebenezer Scrooge in New Big-Screen Adaptation of A Christmas Carol

Johnny Depp is stepping into one of literature’s most iconic roles, officially signing on to portray Ebenezer Scrooge in a new major film adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, set for theatrical release on November 13, 2026.

The project, described as a “visually bold and emotionally grounded reimagining,” will blend classic Victorian storytelling with modern cinematic style. According to producers, Depp’s version of Scrooge will lean heavily into the character’s psychological transformation — exploring not only his greed and isolation, but the deeper wounds that shaped him.

Filming is scheduled to begin early next year, with the studio promising a sweeping holiday spectacle featuring state-of-the-art visual effects to bring the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come to life.

Depp, who has long been known for his eccentric and transformative performances, said he’s honored to take on a role “that has lasted through centuries and still speaks to who we are today.”

The announcement has already ignited excitement across social media and film circles, with many predicting that Depp’s interpretation could become one of the most memorable screen versions of Scrooge in decades.

More casting news and production details are expected in the coming months as the film enters pre-production.
