LDT “🎬 Johnny Depp Makes Major Hollywood Comeback in Dark Reimagining of A Christmas Carol”

Johnny Depp is officially returning to big-budget Hollywood filmmaking with a new leading role as Ebenezer Scrooge in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, a dark new adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic in development at Paramount Pictures.

As first reported by People and Entertainment Weekly, the project will be directed by Ti West, known for his acclaimed horror trilogy X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. The upcoming film promises a darker and more psychological take on Dickens’s timeless ghost story, focusing on Scrooge’s confrontation with his past and redemption through supernatural encounters.

The film is currently slated for release on November 13, 2026, according to People.

A symbolic return

The role marks Depp’s first major studio film since his well-publicized legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, which left his Hollywood career largely on pause. Over the last few years, he has focused on independent and European productions, including his directorial effort Modì, a biopic about painter Amedeo Modigliani.

Industry observers view Ebenezer as a symbolic comeback — a chance for Depp to reintroduce himself to mainstream audiences in a role that mirrors his own redemption arc.

Behind the scenes

The screenplay was written by Nathaniel Halpern, with Andrea Riseborough reportedly attached to co-star. Production is expected to begin in early 2026.
