The Death Of Luke Bryan’s Brother Forever Changes His Life
In 1996, just as country singer Luke Bryan was preparing to leave his hometown of Leesburg, Georgia, for Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a career in country music, his older brother Chris was killed in a car accident.
The loss devastated Luke and his family, and he decided to put his move on hold, staying in Georgia to support them.
“When Chris passed away, it was devastating because no one was more fired up about me going to Nashville than him,” Luke told Today in 2021.
Luke studied Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, where he worked on his family’s peanut farm in Leesburg. He eventually graduated from Georgia Southern in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
f“We knew Luke at some point would come to Nashville,” his mother previously said. “But … you can’t leave your family, and … I couldn’t bear the thought of him being away.”

Luke and his family experienced more heartbreak in 2007, when his sister Kelly Bryan Cheshire passed away unexpectedly, and then again when his brother-in-law, Ben Cheshire, died in 2014.
Luke and his wife, Caroline, stepped in to raise their two nieces, Jordan and Kris, and nephew, Til.

Luke Shares The Last Photo He Has With His Brother
In a recent interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Luke opened up about his brother and the grief he has carried with him.
Luke shared a little about the incident, saying that his brother was leaving a Halloween party when he was hit in a head-on collision.
“I will never forget hearing those words that Chris was in a car-wreck and had not made it,” Luke explains.
The singer shared it was the first time in his life he had ever felt a pain so deep, recalling how no one was more excited than his brother to pursue his music career.
He shared a photo with Anderson, saying it was the last they had ever taken together.
“He was a big country music fan… we just planned to go see a Hank Jr. concert and that was our last photo that we had taken together,” Luke said.
