Former President Barack Obama has publicly thanked Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley after the Pro Bowl star officially joined his nationwide initiative to fight hunger across the United States.
In a post that quickly spread across X, Obama reminded Americans that “more than 47 million people — including one in five children — still don’t have reliable access to nutritious food.” Just hours later, Barkley announced a $60,000 donation to Philabundance, helping provide thousands of meals to families in Philadelphia and surrounding areas.
Since arriving in Philly, Barkley has made it clear that his mission goes beyond football. On the field, he has already become the engine of the Eagles’ offense — rushing for 540+ yards and 6 touchdowns through eight games, while contributing another 210 yards as a receiver. Off the field, through the Saquon Barkley Hope Fund, he has supported youth programs, food drives, and community outreach efforts aimed at giving disadvantaged kids a fair shot at a better future.
Speaking on why he chose to respond to Obama’s call, Barkley said:
“Where I come from, I’ve seen how real food insecurity is. If I can use my platform to make sure more kids go to sleep full instead of hungry, that’s a win bigger than football.”
Obama reposted the story with a personal message of gratitude:

According to team sources, Obama also sent Barkley a handwritten letter and a presidential coin, now proudly displayed inside the Eagles’ facility. The moment went viral overnight, with Eagles fans calling Barkley “Philly’s fighter with a purpose.”
