A “phenomenal” crime thriller recently added to Netflix is getting fans hooked after just 10 minutes into the series.

Not long after being added to the service it has already found its way into the charts.

At the time of writing, it is currently the fifth most watched series among subscribers in the UK.

Quite some feat for a show that was originally broadcast between 2017 and 2020. Especially when it is competing with a number of high profile releases such as The Beast In Me.

Those without a Netflix subscription needn’t worry though. All three seasons are also available to stream via Channel 5 for free

Six years later, she is found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive and with no memory of the years that she was missing. She returns home to learn that her husband has remarried and her son is being raised by the new wife.

As if that was not complicated enough, she soon finds herself implicated in a new series of murders. She soon sets out to reclaim her life and identity.

Stana Katic takes on the lead role of Special Agent Emily Byrn. She is most well known for previously appearing in cosy crime procedural Castle, where she played Detective Kate Beckett in all eight seasons.

While Absentia only managed a 50% critical rating on website Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a more favourable 70% audience score. Fans are still vocal with their recommendations for the series.

One viewer claimed the series is worthy for its lead star alone. They claimed: “Stana is phenomenal per-usual and gives an excellent performance, if you’re not wanting to watch for the plot you should definitely just watch for her. She deserves all the praise and more for this show, hope to see her acting in something big again soon!”

Another admitted: “Right from the initial 10 minutes, it had me hooked to the screen. Surely its among the great mystery thrillers ever made.

“A very, very intriguing story. A lot of twists and turns, good acting, nice setting. Also every episode finishes with a uh-oh moment. Loved it. Must watch for those who love a dark, twisted, thrilling story.”

Someone else added: “Had me hooked. The twists and turns can be difficult to keep track of but it’s been a long time since a series has had me so captured.

“It is slightly frustrating at times – resulting in many screams and shouts at the screen but I love the way the different story lines have played out and the development of the characters. Would highly recommend.”
