Mtp.🚨 “Caught on Camera: The Outrageous Fairhope Arrest That Left Stephen Colbert’s Audience Gasping — You Won’t Believe the Costume!”

Colbert, host of the CBS late-night show, discussed the arrest of 61-year-old Jeana Gamble. She wore an inflatable penis costume during a “No Kings” protest on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Fairhope police deemed the costume obscene.

“What?” Colbert said during his monologue. “They can’t call that obscene. You can clearly see in the picture the penis is using a flag to cover its (breasts).”

Colbert was referring to an American flag that Gamble draped just above two round shapes on the inflatable costume.

Gamble allegedly refused to remove the phallic costume, which prompted the arrest, according to Fairhope police.

Colbert showed a clip of Gamble’s arrest, noting her age.

“You might think it’s a pretty bad look for three cops to tackle an older woman, but remember, they couldn’t tell she was 61 because every penis looks like it’s 102 years old,” he said.

Indivisible Baldwin County, which organized the Fairhope protest, issued a statement days after the arrest.

“Gamble was peacefully expressing her point of view on Saturday,” the statement said. “Her violent arrest for expressing herself in ways the police found rude is indefensible, morally and legally.”

Fairhope Police Lt. Shane Nolte told News 5 the action was necessary due to the nature of the costume.

“We respect that right to freedom of speech,” Nolte said, “but there is that line where, when you start going to obscene situations, or in this case, an obscene costume or disorderly behavior, then we do have to take action, which was done in this situation.”
