SAT. Here are the corporations and donors footing the bill for Trump’s new White House ballroom
WASHINGTON — Billionaire donors and top corporations are footing the bill for President Trump’s $300 million ballroom at the White House, according to its officials.
The 90,000-square-foot grand hall will soon sit at the north end of the executive mansion’s East Wing, thanks in large part to private contributions from companies like Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Google and Meta.
Crypto-businesses such as Coinbase and Gemini, as well as GOP megadonors including the Winklevoss twins and Miriam Adelson, have also shelled out for the massive structure, along with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and his family.
Trump has said he hopes the ballroom will reflect the gilded splendor of his Mar-a-Lago club’s main dining room — and be able to accommodate foreign dignitaries for state dinners as well as others for major events.
“We’re gonna have a phenomenal ballroom, this is gonna be one of the best anywhere in the world. There won’t be anything like it, actually,” he told donors last week.
“And it’s four sides of glass, beautiful glass, but totally appropriate in color and in window shape, and everything else with the White House,” added Trump of the structure expected to seat as many as 900 people.
The president had pegged the cost at between $200 and $250 million for the building crafted by some of the “best architects in the world” — but the White House has emphasized there will be no burden on taxpayers.
The now-demolished East Room could previously host only 200 or so guests at the White House for official functions.
Trump said Wednesday that the new ballroom would be “near” the East Wing, but not touching it.”
The construction project follows the installation of 100-foot-tall posts for American flags on the North and South Lawns.
The historic Rose Garden also got paved over to create an outdoor patio that has since been the site of high-profile meetings with Cabinet officials and members of Congress.
And a “Presidential Walk of Fame” on the West Wing Colonnade has been installed — with former President Joe Biden represented by a photo of an autopen.
