SM. The Late Show may be ending, but Stephen Colbert’s next move is already turning heads and stirring curiosity across Hollywood

Stephen Colbert is having plenty of fun as he finishes up the final season of The Late Show, debuting hilarious new impressions and going no-holds-barred when it comes to his critiques of the administration.

Now, he is also showing he’ll be just fine when it comes to his show’s end, as he continues to land new gigs. Colbert previously announced his show was cancelled, with CBS stating that the then-upcoming season would be the show’s last. This move came not long after Colbert criticized their settlement with Donald Trump over a 60 Minutes interview and before their merger with Skydance was approved by the FCC.

Since then, he has won an Emmy Award for the show that may have sent a message to both CBS and Trump, and it appears new opportunities are firmly on the horizon for the late-night personality.

It was first revealed that he would guest star on CBS’s hit dramedy series Elsbeth, appearing in the show’s third-season premiere.

The episode, which airs on October 12, will see him portray the role of Scotty Bristol, the fictional host of a late-night show called Way Late with Scotty Bristol. It’s believed the cameo was arranged prior to the announcement that The Late Show would be cancelled.

In the clip, he announced he had joined the cast of Paramount+’s upcoming series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. In the show, he will serve as a voice actor, portraying the “Digital Dean” of the students at the training academy.

In the announcement video, Colbert also shared a hilarious example of one of the announcements his new role will deliver to cadets on the show.

“I’ll get to announce things like, ‘Attention Ensign Krebs, your Talaxian furfly has exited the replicator and is not mating with itself. Please report to Science Lab 1 immediately. Children are watching,’” he said.

“That’s an actual line,” he added.

Details about the show largely remain under wraps, though fans have been anticipating it for a while. It is set to follow a new generation of cadets who are navigating both life and science in the Federation’s prestigious training program.

The news of the new role comes as Colbert’s show continues to air it’s 11th and final season. He took over The Late Show from David Letterman in 2015, after the latter hosted the program from its 1993 inception.
