RL Billie Eilish sets James Cameron-directed 3D concert film

Two-time Oscar winner and nine-time Grammy winner Billie Eilish has officially unveiled her next project, a film with a collaborator that’s as big as they come.

Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) will be a theatrical concert film of the arena tour that Eilish just wrapped up, and she is co-director on the movie with none other than James Cameron.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Billie Eilish concert film heading to theaters next year.

What is it?

During the final show of her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, Eilish officially announced the collaboration with Cameron and then posted about it shortly afterward.

“HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR (LIVE IN 3D) coming to theatres on march 20th 2026 !!!! 🥳🥳🥳 this has been one of my favorite tours everrrrrr and being able to capture it and co-direct this film with @jamescameronofficial has truly been a dream come true. can’t wait for you all to see it :’)🎥⭐️🤭💙”

Wasn’t this already announced?

Kinda!

During one of the Manchester shows in July — where Cameron shot the concert movie — Eilish addressed the extra cameras filming with the audience.

“So you may have noticed that there are more cameras than usual in here,” she said. Basically, I can’t say much about it, but what I can say is that I’m working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron, and it’s going to be in 3D. So, take that as you will and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making with him. He’s in this audience somewhere, just saying. So don’t mind that, and also I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row.”

When does it come out?

The press release from Paramount that landed after the announcement specified that the March 20, 2026 is the global release date, so everyone will be getting to see the movie at roughly the same time.

Does it have awards potential?

While the album Hit Me Hard and Soft generated six Grammy nominations (and deserved to win more), the concert will most likely won’t drum up the same kind of enthusiasm on the awards front. The most relevant recent comp would be The Eras Tour, and that only generated a single Golden Globe nomination — and that was for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
