Have you been watching Riot Women? Sally Wainwright’s latest series filmed in the likes of Hebden Bridge and Halifax in West Yorkshire recently took over our TV screens.
The six-part BBC show featured a group of menopausal women, including a teacher, police officer, pub landlady, midwife, and shoplifting freeloader, form a punk rock band to take part in a local talent contest.
Although the first season of Riot Women focused on the band and its music, it was the characters’ individual stories that had the nation hooked, including Beth (the teacher, played by Joanna Scanlan) and Kitty (the freeloader, played by Rosalie Craig) who discovered an “earth-shattering” connection from their past.
But will the likes of Lorraine Ashbourne as Jess, Tamsin Greig as Holly and Amelia Bullmore as Yvonne be returning for a second series anytime soon? Let’s find out.
Is there going to be a second series of Riot Women?
It’s been reported that talks for Riot Women’s next season have already begun, as it “captured the imagination” of viewers and is filmed in Yorkshire, which “doesn’t always have as much focus” as it should.
A TV insider told The Sun: “Sometimes shows come along which just seem to capture the public’s imagination and this is one of them.
“It was never going to be a blockbuster, but Riot Women is viewed as a great yarn and a real departure for a Sunday night drama, which tend to be more gritty or high-octane.
“Plus it covers a section of society which doesn’t always get as much attention as it deserves, and Yorkshire is a corner of the country that doesn’t always have as much focus either.”
It seems the cast think Riot Women has more to offer too, as Rosalie recently told Radio Times: “Oh, it definitely doesn’t feel final. And I know that there’s a great will to have another season.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the broadcaster yet, as the BBC declined to comment to Newsquest.
