Lisa Kennedy Montgomery blamed California Gavin Newsom for the wildfires in a joke after ranting about the politician.
The Fox News contributor and host, who goes by the mononym Kennedy, was a guest on America’s Newsroom on Wednesday, November 19. Newsom came up in conversation on the morning program as they discussed the affordability of Los Angeles and Glen Powell’s decision to move back home to Texas from LA in an recent interview with Vanity Fair.
Kennedy, 53, made her disdain for Newsom, 58, clear throughout the discussion. At one point, conservative radio host Rich Zeoli complimented Newsom’s “fantastic” hair and then quipped that there was a “carbon footprint” associated with it. He then jokingly asked the libertarian podcaster what she thought of Newsom’s hair and the impact of its carbon footprint.
“I think it’s responsible for the wildfires,” Kennedy began about Newsom’s hair. “I joke, it’s gallows humor because [for] those of us who are still fighting the after effects almost a year later, the state has done nothing to battle the insurance companies on our behalf.”
“Our community is devastated, and we just want to go home. And people are finding new homes, and you just cannot blame them,” she added.

A series of wildfires affected the Los Angeles region and San Diego County in California from January 7 to January 31. The two largest fires were the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire.
The Palisades Fire killed 12 people, destroyed over 6,800 homes and structures, and burned over 23,000 acres. The Eaton Fire killed 19 people and demolished 9,000 structures.
Following the fires, an insurance crisis ensued and it remains ongoing. Residents said they found their policies had been canceled or dropped by the companies. As of mid-November, the Office of the County Counsel for Los Angeles County launched an investigation into State Farm, which is the largest private insurer in California, and how they handled insurance payouts after the Palisades and Eaton fires.

According to ABC 7, the investigation stemmed from growing complaints from fire victims about “delays, underpayments, and denials of legitimate wildfire claims.”
In early October, Newsom signed a bipartisan package of bills that is supposed to improve California’s insurer of last resort and help Californians “recover from disasters.”
“The kinds of climate-fueled firestorms like we saw in January will only continue to worsen over time. That’s why we’re taking action now to continue strengthening California’s insurance market to be more resilient in the face of the climate crisis,” the Democrat said, per his website.

Newsom and Fox News have not had the best relationship. He filed a lawsuit against the network in June, seeking $787 million in damages. Newsom accused the network of defamation following host Jesse Watters’ claim that Newsom lied about Trump never calling him.
On June 10, Trump claimed during a press conference that he had called Newsom “a day ago” to do a “better job” and that he was “doing a bad job.” Newsom had tweeted that he never got a call or “even a voicemail” from Trump.
According to the Sacramento Bee in September, Fox News is requesting Newcastle County Superior Court dismiss the lawsuit and to make Newsom pay their legal costs.
In July, Watters apologized to Newsom on-air but claimed he wasn’t lying.
