LDT “Michigan Woman Wins $100K Powerball Jackpot with ChatGPT-Generated Numbers”

In a surprising turn of events, 45-year-old Tammy Carvey from Wyandotte, Michigan, secured a $100,000 Powerball prize by using numbers generated by the AI chatbot ChatGPT. Carvey purchased her ticket online at MichiganLottery.com for the September 6, 2025, drawing, which featured a jackpot exceeding $1 billion. Instead of choosing numbers of personal significance, she opted to have ChatGPT generate a set for her. The numbers—11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and Powerball 17—matched four white balls and the Powerball, earning her a base prize of $50,000. Thanks to the Power Play option she had selected, her winnings were doubled to $100,000.

Initially, Carvey believed she had won $50,000. However, upon logging into her Michigan Lottery account, she discovered the Power Play multiplier had increased her prize. She described the moment as one of total disbelief, shared with her husband.

Carvey plans to use her newfound wealth to pay off her home and save the remainder. This win adds to a growing trend of lottery players turning to AI for number selection. Notably, a Virginia woman, Carrie Edwards, previously won $150,000 using AI-generated numbers, which she donated to charity.

While the Michigan Lottery emphasizes that all lottery results are random and cannot be accurately predicted using AI, Carvey’s story has captured public imagination, blending technology with the age-old dream of striking it rich.
