Pop star Billie Eilish has unleashed a fierce public rebuke of tech billionaire Elon Musk, calling him out for failing to use his vast wealth to tackle urgent global problems such as hunger, environmental destruction, and humanitarian crises.
A Fiery Instagram Tirade
On November 13, Eilish shared a series of Instagram Stories, re-posting infographics from the advocacy group My Voice, My Choice. The graphics laid out concrete ways Musk could put his money to work for the world — if he chose to. Among the proposals:
Ending global hunger with an annual investment of around $40 billion.
Providing safe, clean drinking water worldwide — estimated at $140 billion over seven years.
Rescuing endangered species, potentially spending $1–2 billion per year to preserve over 10,000 critically endangered animals.
Rebuilding war-torn regions, including Gaza and parts of the West Bank, with a projected cost of at least $53.2 billion.
After reposting these suggestions, Eilish added her own message on a black slide:
“etc … fing pathetic py b**** coward.”
Why the Outburst?
The singer’s post comes just days after Tesla shareholders approved a trillion-dollar compensation package for Musk. If he meets the performance targets laid out in the deal — including massive growth in Tesla’s valuation and ambitious technology goals — the pay package could potentially elevate him to trillionaire status.
Eilish has long been vocal about wealth inequality. In late October, while accepting the Music Innovator Award at the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards, she directly addressed billionaires in the audience, asking:
“If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? … Give your money away, shorties.”
During that event, she also revealed a major charitable commitment: $11.5 million of proceeds from her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour will go to organizations working on food equity, climate justice, and pollution reduction.
Reactions and Implications
No public response from Musk yet. As of now, Elon Musk has not addressed Eilish’s criticism.
A spotlight on billionaire responsibility. Eilish’s post has reignited debates over the moral obligations of the ultra-wealthy — especially those whose wealth could, in theory, make a huge difference in global suffering.
Backing words with action. Unlike many critics, Eilish isn’t just talking — her $11.5 million donation shows she’s putting her money where her mouth is.
A Bold Call for Change
Billie Eilish’s fiery message is more than celebrity drama — it’s a pointed moral demand. She’s challenging one of the richest people in the world to rethink what his wealth could achieve and pressing him to move beyond mere accumulation. Her words may sting, but they come with data, conviction, and a call to action: use power for good — or be called out.
