LDT “Morgan Freeman Threatens Legal Action Over Unauthorized AI Cloning of His Iconic Voice”

LOS ANGELES — Academy Award–winning actor Morgan Freeman is sounding the alarm on the unauthorized use of artificial intelligence to replicate his unmistakable voice, calling the practice “robbing me.”

Freeman revealed that his legal team is actively pursuing multiple cases against companies and individuals using AI to clone his voice without permission. He expressed deep frustration that his signature vocal tone — honed over a lifetime — is now being mimicked with a “falseness” he finds distressing.

He also warned against a future where AI-generated actors — like “Tilly Norwood,” a synthetic voice used to portray younger actors — could erode opportunities for real performers.

Speaking about one particular deepfake, Freeman thanked fans for alerting him after a TikTok video surfaced that used an AI-generated version of his voice. He shared his appreciation on social media, noting that their vigilance is helping protect what he called “authenticity and integrity.”

At 88 years old, Freeman reflected on his vocal journey, revealing he once studied diction in community college to cultivate his resonant tone — a skill he firmly believes should be respected and fairly compensated.
