RT “BREAKING: Mysterious Pre-Game Messages From Marshawn Kneeland Leave Cowboys Fans Stunned”

Newly released audio details the urgent efforts by the team’s security chief to conduct a welfare check after the player sent concerning texts about not being able to go to jail.

DALLAS — In the hours before his death, Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland sent text messages to friends saying goodbye and expressing that he could not bear the thought of going to jail, according to police dispatch recordings released Tuesday.

The recordings capture a call from Cowboys Head of Security Cable Johnson to the Plano Police Department, urgently requesting a welfare check for the 24-year-old player.

“He sent out some group texts that are concerning, probably mental health,” Johnson is heard telling a police dispatcher. “The group text seemed to be saying goodbye and he made some statement about not being able to go to prison or to jail.”

The context for Kneeland’s reference to incarceration remains unclear. The police dispatcher did not ask Johnson to elaborate, and a Plano police spokesman could not be immediately reached for comment Tuesday.

Johnson indicated he had already been in contact with Plano Police Chief Ed Drain to alert him to the situation. “I just was off the phone with Chief Drain so he’s aware, and I sent him the text as well,” Johnson said on the call.

Despite these urgent efforts, Kneeland was found dead in the early morning hours of last Thursday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The tragedy unfolded after authorities say he evaded Texas Department of Public Safety troopers who attempted to stop him for a traffic violation near Frisco on Wednesday night. The brief pursuit ended with Kneeland crashing a car and fleeing on foot before his death.

The news casts a heartbreaking shadow over what had been a recent professional high for the young player. Just days earlier, Kneeland had scored his first NFL touchdown by recovering a blocked punt in the end zone during a “Monday Night Football” game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Kneeland was in his second season with the Cowboys. The organization and the NFL community continue to mourn his loss and offer support to his family and loved ones.
