LDT “Dolly Parton Opens Up About Aging, Health, and Finding Strength After Loss”
Country music legend Dolly Parton is opening up about her health and the realities of growing older — and, true to form, she’s doing it with humor, grace, and a whole lot of heart.
The 79-year-old superstar recently spoke candidly about her health struggles and how the loss of her husband, Carl Dean, earlier this year affected her both emotionally and physically.
“Back when my husband Carl was very sick — and then when he passed — I didn’t take care of myself,” Parton admitted in a recent interview. “I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of.”
Parton, who postponed several appearances and her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency earlier this fall, reassured fans that she’s on the mend and focusing on her well-being.
“I’ve had some problems, but nothing major,” she said with a laugh. “I just needed a little 100,000-mile check-up!”
Despite those health setbacks, Parton’s trademark optimism remains unwavering. In a message to fans earlier this month, she quipped, “I ain’t dead yet, and I ain’t done yet — God’s not through with me.”

A Time for Reflection — and Resilience
As she nears her 80th birthday in January 2026, Parton is reflecting on the passage of time — and the power of perspective.
“People say, ‘Well, you’re going to be 80 years old,’” she said. “Well, so what? Look at all I’ve done in 80 years. I feel like I’m just getting started. I ain’t got time to get old!”
Parton revealed that the period following her husband’s death was one of deep grief but also renewal. She’s poured much of that emotion into her upcoming memoir, Star of the Show: My Life on Stage, set for release in 2026.
A Living Example of Grace and Grit
For decades, Dolly Parton has inspired millions — not only through her music but through her ability to stay authentic in every chapter of her life.
Her message now is one of acceptance and perseverance: aging is not something to fear, but a reminder to keep shining.
“I cry easier than I used to,” she admitted. “But that’s just because I’ve lived enough to feel everything more deeply — the love, the laughter, and the loss.”
From the Grand Ole Opry to global superstardom, Dolly Parton continues to prove that rhinestones might fade, but resilience never does.
