Before he was crowned the King of Pop, Michael Jackson was a wide-eyed child prodigy leading one of the most successful groups in Motown history — The Jackson 5.

Formed in Gary, Indiana, and signed to Motown Records in 1968, the group — featuring brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael — catapulted to fame almost overnight. With young Michael as lead vocalist, the band’s dynamic blend of soul, pop, and infectious choreography made them an instant sensation across America.

Their early hits, including “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There,” all shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 — a record-breaking streak that cemented their status as teenage superstars.

Even at age 11, Jackson’s vocal control and emotional range stunned audiences and critics alike. Motown executives, including Berry Gordy Jr., often described him as a “once-in-a-generation performer,” capable of channeling both innocence and intensity in a single note.

As The Jackson 5 evolved into The Jacksons under Epic Records in the mid-1970s, Michael began experimenting with songwriting and production — foreshadowing the revolutionary solo career that would follow.

More than five decades later, their Motown classics continue to define a golden era of American pop and R&B, with Michael’s early brilliance shining as the spark that ignited one of music’s greatest legacies.
