Ohio beekeeper Emily Mueller has redefined the boundaries of maternity photography — by posing with her baby bump completely covered in 20,000 live honeybees.
At 33 years old and expecting her fourth child, Emily wanted to create an image that perfectly blended her two greatest passions: motherhood and beekeeping. As a professional beekeeper managing 24 active hives and caring for over 1.2 million bees, she’s no stranger to the buzzing world that others might find terrifying. In fact, she estimates she’s been stung more than 350 times this year alone. “A lot of people think I’m crazy,” she laughed. “But I’ve been around bees for years, and they’re not out to hurt you. I wore a long flowing dress that protected me and helped the bees settle naturally. I felt completely calm.”
