As Audra Petraškienė drove home along a quiet riverside road in Lithuania, she never expected to become part of a life-or-death rescue. The afternoon was still, the water calm, and the road nearly empty when something strange caught her eye near the edge of the river. There, trembling and soaked to the bone, was a small dog struggling to stand.
At first, Audra thought the animal might have accidentally fallen into the river, but when she got closer, a horrifying truth became clear. The dog wasn’t wet from play or curiosity — someone had tried to drown him. Wrapped around his neck was a heavy metal object, crudely tied in place like an anchor meant to drag him under.
Her heart dropped at the sight. The dog’s entire body shook from the cold, his eyes wide with fear. It was a miracle he had somehow managed to break free and pull himself out of the water. Audra quickly jumped into action, freeing him from the cruel weight that had nearly claimed his life.

For now, the once-drenched survivor is resting under Audra’s protection, finally warm, fed, and safe. “She will definitely do what’s best for this dog,” Andra said.

“I am very proud of her,” Andra said of her mother. “She loves animals and always takes care of them.”
