Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens and his potential contract extension have been the hot topic, with the star receiver playing lights out since being traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On the final year of his deal, many want the Cowboys front office [Jerry Jones] to begin working on a possible extension for Pickens, given what his addition has done to this offense and how he has fit in seamlessly into Brian Schottenheimer’s locker room.Pickens has already stated that he would wait until the end of the year before talking about his future, betting on himself, but when asked this time around whether he would want to talk now or wait until the offseason, George made it known that it isn’t his call.
“That’s kind of up to like what he [Jerry Jones] want to do,” Pickens said. “All I can do is just perform at my best to be honest.”
But have any talks taken place?
“Not so far, me personally, I’m just trying to get a dub, trying to stack victories, trying to get us to the playoffs,” Pickens added. “Win, win, win. Honestly.”
Do Cowboys have cap space for Pickens extension?
Don’t let Jerry or Stephen Jones fool you; they have more than enough cap space to sign Pickens to a long-term deal. They had enough space to sign Micah Parsons, too.
At the time of writing, per Overthecap.com, the Cowboys have a little over $30 million in cap space to spend, the second-most in football. So, there is more than enough pie to sign Pickens, along with doing several other deals like Brandon Aubrey as well.
But as it always is, it comes down to whether or not the Cowboys want to. It’s as simple as that.
