Carrie Underwood Named The Highest- RIAA Certified Female Country Musician
On Friday, October 24th, Carrie Underwood took the stage to perform at the famed Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. As a member of the revered institution, Carrie performs regularly in the Opry circle. However, this night would prove to be a monumental moment in her career.
After her set, executives from MCA and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) presented Carrie with a plaque commemorating a major milestone accomplishment. She has now officially sold more units than any other female country artist, as certified by the RIAA!
“Accomplishments like this are more than I would have ever dared to dream of when I was starting out,” responded Carrie, following the announcement.
Carrie’s career began in 2005 when she won the fourth season of American Idol. Since then, the highly acclaimed singer has sold 95 million units, comprising 22.5 million albums and 72.5 million singles, in the U.S. alone. She added:
“I owe everything to the fans, who have literally voted for me from the beginning of my career and have showed up and given me so much love for over 20 years. I feel truly blessed.”
