ss Breaking News: “It’s Not As Bad As It Looks”? — Jerry Jones Breaks His Silence After Cowboys’ Defensive Meltdown Against the Broncos!

The Dallas Cowboys couldn’t recreate the magic from Week 7 in Denver as the home team Denver Broncos, ran riot on the visitors to keep their divisional lead intact. The Broncos took the lead when there were eight minutes left in the first quarter and never relinquished it in the 44-24 comfortable win.

The Dallas loss exposed their brutally open and poor defense, which has been reeling from the loss of defensive edge and four-time Pro Bowler Micah Parsons in the offseason to the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys’ defensive unit could not record any sacks in the game and gave away 426 yards. There was no defending the performance and the management had to pivot around for an answer to the continued problems.

Jerry Jones, who’s widely criticized for his strategic moves in the past three decades, knows a thing or two about public relations and has tons of experience in media training. He put those to use to answer diplomatically. Jones told the 105.3 The Fan:

It’s not as bad as it looks … but it also has a lot of room for improvement for us to be where we want to be on defense.

Jones, however, also claimed that he doesn’t think that a single player could be the difference between their current dilemma and a successful unit, adding that the timely execution can answer their woeful prayers.

Meanwhile, new head coach Brian Schottenheimer wasn’t as diplomatic or reserved with his take. He was blunt, noting that nothing particularly positive stood out on either side of the ball, emphasizing that the defense was the main concern. He described the team’s effort as “unacceptable” and said that the team will take these concerns seriously and bring about some change. Schottenheimer said, via the team’s website:

There are always reasons to change, and there will be change. I can promise you that. I can show you that. We’ve already had meetings, and we’ve talked about those changes. We’re in the mode right now of where we’ve got kind of a one-game season.

Though Dallas may switch it up in small doses against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9, major changes are only expected after the bye week. The Cowboys do not play in Week 10, and the week off will provide the management to review the nine games they played before and rectify the errors that they keep on making.

The Broncos loss not a factor in Cowboys’ trade plans

The Cowboys’ 44-24 blowout loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday should push Jerry Jones to consider a more aggressive approach ahead of the trade deadline. However, the Cowboys’ owner told reporters that the Week 8 disappointment will not influence the team’s decision-making process.

Jones told reporters after the loss to the Broncos:

If you’re talking about trading for a player or trading a player, I’d completely look at it on the merits of this team, both for next week or the weeks after or for the longer term. No, today would not affect decisions on trading for a player.

Nonetheless, Jerry Jones hasn’t shied away from making some moves to build their team better. It is to be seen whether he acts on his promises.

With the 2025 trade deadline just a week away on November 4, the Dallas Cowboys must quickly decide whether to position themselves as buyers or sellers as they linger around the .500 mark. They need some reinforcement in the defense unit if they are gunning for the playoffs, as the race has gotten tight in the last two weeks. It doesn’t help that the Cowboys have games against five teams with a winning record in their next seven.
