Phxt “After 16 Remarkable Years, John Dickerson Signs Off: The Voice of CBS News Says Goodbye to an Era He Helped Shape”

WASHINGTON — Veteran journalist John Dickerson, who is currently a co-anchor of “CBS Evening News,” announced Monday he would be leaving the network after 16 years.

“Local news: At the end of this year, I will leave CBS, sixteen years after I sat in as Face the Nation anchor for the first time,” Dickerson said in a post on social media. “I am extremely grateful for all that CBS gave me— the work, the audience’s attention and the honor of being a part of the network’s history— and I am grateful for my dear colleagues who’ve made me a better journalist and a better human. I will miss you.”He did not provide a reason for his looming departure.
Dickerson is a former host of “Face the Nation” and “CBS This Morning” for the network. The former Time magazine White House correspondent, alongside Maurice DuBois, has been anchoring “CBS Evening News” since January. The duo took over following Norah O’Donnell stepping down from the flagship show.
Dickerson’s exit marks the first high-profile talent departure from the network since Bari Weiss, founder of the news and commentary website The Free Press became the editor-in-chief of CBS News.
Weiss reports directly to Paramount CEO David Ellison.

The network said that Dickerson will continue to co-anchor the network’s flagship evening newscast until the holidays. In a statement, CBS News president Tom Cibrowski said Dickerson “epitomizes the very best of journalism” and until the holidays “we’ll have plenty of time to thank him for his work here and honor his contributions to our success.”
