Phxt NEXT UP? Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom Spark 2028 White House Speculation

The race for the 2028 White House might already be taking shape — and two of the biggest Democratic names aren’t ruling it out. Vice President Kamala Harris and California Governor Gavin Newsom have both hinted they may enter the fray, fueling talk of an impending intra-party showdown.
In a recent interview with BBC News, Harris said she’s “not done yet,” suggesting that her political ambitions extend beyond the current administration. While stopping short of a formal announcement, she added that she believes America is ready for a woman president — and she intends to make that happen.
Meanwhile, Newsom told CBS News that he will “consider a White House run after the 2026 elections,” acknowledging that denying such speculation “wouldn’t be honest.” The California governor, known for his progressive policies and national media presence, has recently stepped up appearances in key swing states — a move seen by analysts as early positioning for a potential campaign.
If both decide to run, the 2028 Democratic primary could become a defining moment: a clash between Harris’s national experience and Newsom’s state-level success, and a test of the Democratic Party’s future identity in post-Biden America.
