4t “WE NEED $4 MILLION NOW!” – New NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani just posted a video calling for donations for the transfer of power, and the amount raised has shocked many people.

New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani took to social media to ask supporters for donations to help fund his transition to City Hall. So far, his campaign has raised $1 million for transition expenses but needs a total of $4 million. Unlike the campaign period, transitions do not receive public matching funds, making this fundraising effort crucial. Mamdani emphasized the urgency, saying, “‘We have less than 50 days until we take office, and we have a lot to do. We have to vet the 50,000 resumes we’ve received. We have to keep paying our incredible team … and we have to plan not just our inauguration, but our policy implementation.’”

With an average donation of $77 from 12,000 supporters, Mamdani’s approach contrasts with typical transitions that rely on wealthy donors. For comparison, Mayor Eric Adams received an average of $1,219 from just 884 donors during his transition. Mamdani stressed his campaign’s grassroots nature, saying they want “‘January 1 to be the day we start to deliver, not start to prepare.’”
In addition to fundraising, Mamdani announced plans to meet with former President Donald Trump to discuss affordability and lowering the cost of living, signaling a pragmatic approach to tackling the city’s pressing issues.
Overall, Mamdani’s transition fundraising highlights his commitment to inclusivity, community involvement, and immediate action upon taking office to address New York City’s challenges.
